1878 - 1910:  Chapman Tract Subdivision

An 1878 survey shows the first division of the Chapman tract:  A 1254 acre bulk of the tract is indicated for Alfred Beck ("A.B.”) Chapman, while a 364 acre subdivision is indicated for the Heirs Of Catherine L. Chapman. Using modern landmarks, the boundaries of this subdivision were:

An 1880 survey shows the 31 acre Homestead on the Heirs Of Catherine L. Chapman subdivision. The modern corners of the homestead were approximately:

Using modern landmarks, the main dwelling's entry from the road (Rosemead Blvd.) was in the area of Locksley Dr., approximately following the first curve in Locksley and then continuing straight to the dwelling, which was in the area of 741 Michigan and faced northwest.  A smoke house, milk house and chicken house were located just north of the dwelling; a barn, corral & servants quarters were located in the area of 664 Rosemead.
